“Dumbo” leading lady and Thandiwe Newton’s real-life daughter Nico Parker has scored a small but crucial role in HBO’s TV series adaptation of Naughty Dog’s highly acclaimed “The Last of Us” video game franchise.

The story is set twenty years after the destruction of modern civilization in a biological apocalypse involving fungal spores. The action centers on Joel (Pedro Pascal), a hardened survivor who is hired to smuggle a fourteen-year-old girl named Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of an oppressive quarantine zone.

The seemingly small job becomes a brutal journey as they come to depend on each other for survival. Parker will play Joel’s daughter who mainly appears in the game in an extended flashback sequence to the time of the apocalypse.

Gabriel Luna also stars as Joel’s brother in the series which hails from “Chernobyl” showrunner Craig Mazin, “Game of Thrones” producer Carolyn Strauss and the game’s writer and creative director Neil Druckmann.

HBO and Sony Pictures TV are producing along with PlayStation Productions, Word Games and game developer Naughty Dog. Kantemir Balagov is directing the pilot episode.

Parker will next be seen in the Hugh Jackman-led sci-fi thriller “Reminiscence” which is coming to cinemas and HBO Max.
