Nic Cage vs. Aussie Surfers In New Thriller

Lionsgate

Nicolas Cage has been cast in the leading role in the elevated psychological thriller feature “The Surfer” at Mossbank.

Cage plays a man who returns to his beachside hometown in Australia, many years since building a life for himself in the United States.

There he is humiliated in front of his teenage son by a local gang of surfers who claim strict ownership over the secluded beach of his childhood.

This wounded ‘Surfer’ decides to remain at the beach, declaring war against those in control of the bay. As the conflict escalates, the stakes spin wildly out of control and takes the man to the edge of his sanity.

Filmmaker Lorcan Finnegan (“Vivarium,” “Nocebo”) directs from a script by Thomas Martin. Robert Connolly, Nathan Klingher, Leonora Darby, James Harris and Mark Lane produce.

Principal photography on the film is slated to commence in September in Australia. The project is being introduced this week to buyers at the Cannes Market.

Mossbank has a busy upcoming slate of action thrillers including “The Fisherwoman” with Emma Thompson, “Thug” with Liam Neeson, “Elevation” with Anthony Mackie, “Just Watch Me” with Gerard Butler, and “Azrael” with Samara Weaving.

The company just premiered the Sean Penn and Tye Sheridan-led emergency responder drama “Black Flies” at Cannes.
