Nicolas Cage will reunite with his “Face/Off” director John Woo in the upcoming crime biopic “Gambino” about infamous New York crime kingpin Carlo Gambino.
Cage will play the man, a butcher’s son from Sicily, who rules New York’s underworld with quiet authority as the head of the Gambino crime family.
But when his death in 1976 sends shockwaves through the city, Pulitzer-winning journalist Jimmy Breslin follows the trail he left behind to uncover the man beneath the legend.
Through the voices of those who loved and feared him, Breslin removes the composure that masked Gambino’s ruthlessness, revealing how this outsider rose to redefine power and the American dream.
Oscar-winner Nick Vallelonga (“Green Book”) and George Gallo (“Midnight Run”) are writing the script for the project.
Cage, Gallo, Vallelonga, Cassian Elwes, Edward Zeng, Robert Daly Jr and David Lipper will produce the film, which is being sold at this week’s American Film Market.
