The new Skydance-owned Paramount Pictures had been teasing that they have plans for the “Star Trek” film franchise, and now they’re slowly unveiling them.
Deadline reports that filmmakers Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley have been set to write, produce and direct the new film.
The pair are best known for their work writing and directing 2018’s acclaimed comedy “Game Night” and 2023’s well-regarded “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves”. The pair also wrote the script for the first Tom Holland-led MCU film “Spider-Man: Homecoming”.
The new film is said to be a “completely new take in the Star Trek universe and is not connected to any previous or current television series, movie, or prior movie development projects.”
That matches David Ellison’s recent comments on an earnings call that the Chris Pine-led films are over and all new actors will be brought in for this to most likely play new characters.
No release date has been set. The last theatrical “Star Trek” film was 2016’s “Star Trek Beyond,” though last year, a direct-to-Paramount+ film was released to scathing reviews.
