The first of Disney’s new films in the “Planet of the Apes” franchise has announced its title – “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” – and released some first-look artwork.
In addition, “The Witcher” actress Freya Allan, who plays Ciri in that show, has joined the cast of the project as a human character alongside Peter Macon (“The Orville”) and Owen Teague (“IT”) with the latter playing the lead ape.
The story will reportedly be set many years after the events of Matt Reeves’ “War For the Planet of the Apes”. Wes Ball (“The Maze Runner”) directs the new entry. Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Patrick Aison are co-writing the script.
The film is still in pre-production and aims to begin shooting next month ahead of a release sometime in 2024.
