Netflix has premiered a new trailer for its quirky sci-fi comedy “They Cloned Tyrone” starring Oscar winner Jamie Foxx, former “Star Wars” alum John Boyega and “WandaVision” breakout Teyonah Parris.
The story follows a series of eerie events that thrust an unlikely trio – a hustler, a pimp, and a sex worker – onto the trail of a nefarious and huge government conspiracy lurking directly beneath their hood.
It seems someone is cloning random citizens in their neighborhood in large underground laboratories. In addition, they’re using additives in everyday products to keep the populous docile and in control. They decide it’s time to fight back.
The film, dubbed a pulpy mystery caper, hails from “Creed 2” scribe Juel Taylor who makes his directorial debut on the film. The trailer suggests something akin to a grungier Boots Riley film – imaginative, energetic, wacky.
Also onboard are David Alan Grier, J. Alphonse Nicholson, Tamberla Perry, Eric Robinson Jr. and Kiefer Sutherland. Taylor co-writes the script with Tony Rettenmaier.
Foxx, Taylor, Rettenmaier, Charles D. King, Stephen ‘Dr.’ Love and Kim Roth produce. “They Cloned Tyrone” releases exclusively through Netflix on July 21st.
