New Trailer: Portman, Moore In “May/December”

Netflix

Netflix has released a second trailer for “Carol,” “I’m Not There” and “Velvet Goldmine” director Todd Haynes’ new darkly comedic melodrama “May December”.

The story centers on a twenty-year romance between a married couple (Julianne Moore, Charles Melton) whose relationship was once tabloid fodder due to not just the twenty-three year age gap, but his age when it began.

That relationship buckles under the pressure when an actress (Natalie Portman) arrives at their home in Georgia to do research for a film about their past and the life of Moore’s character whom she is set to play.

Samy Burch penned the screenplay based on a story she wrote with Alex Mechanik. Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell, Christine Vachon and Pam Koffler produce.

The film premiered at Cannes where the streamer quickly acquired it for $11 million. It sits at 90% (7.6/10) on Rotten Tomatoes and has been widely praised for its performances and tone.

The film will serve as the Opening Night Film at the 2023 New York Film Festival on Friday and will arrive in select theaters on November 17th before hitting Netflix on December 1st.
