New Trailer: “Bird Box Barcelona”

Netflix

Following a brief and vague announcement trailer last month, Netflix has now premiered a proper trailer for its upcoming film “Bird Box Barcelona,” a spin-off of Susanne Bier’s 2018 psychological horror film.

Sandra Bullock starred in the original “Bird Box” as a woman who tries to protect herself and two children in a world in which entities have arrived that cause people who look at them to immediately go insane and commit suicide.

Here, the action shifts to the streets of Barcelona as a man named Sebastian forms uneasy alliances with other survivors and try to escape the city. Meanwhile, an unexpected and even more sinister threat grows.

The original was a massive hit for Netflix, with Nielsen reporting that film was watched by nearly 26 million viewers in its first seven days of release in the United States, and a worldwide audience of around double that according to the streamer.

For three years it held onto the position of the streamer’s most watched movie in its first 28 days of release (89 million households) until “Red Notice”.

Alex and David Pastor, who created Max’s Antarctica set mystery series “The Head,” penned this first of what was intended to be several planned local-language spin-offs set within the same universe.

“Bird Box Barcelona” is set to go global on July 14th.
