A key role in James Gunn’s “Man of Tomorrow” has caused casting confusion today.
It began this morning when Deadline posted a report floating names that had allegedly tested for the role of Maxima in the film, which is gearing up to begin production shortly in Atlanta.
That report suggested Adria Arjona, Ella Purnell and Marisa Abela had tested for a key role in the film, citing it as Maxima, the warrior queen from the planet Almerac.
Gunn then took to social media to debunk it almost right away, saying the report was “shoddy and incorrect” and if “someone would have run these names by us we would have said it was bulls–t”. He adds he’s been friends with Arjona for years and hadn’t met the other two.
Things took a turn a few minutes ago when THR reported that it’s actually Adria Arjona (“Andor”), Eva De Dominici (“The Cleaning Lady”), Sydney Chandler (“Alien: Earth”) and Grace Van Patten (“Tell Me Lies”) who are the four finalists for the role and claims they are testing this week.
The feature sees David Corenswet back as Superman as he teams up with Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) to take on the shared threat of Brainiac (Lars Eidinger). Lanterns star Aaron Pierre will appear in the movie, as will “Superman” castmembers Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathon Fillion (Guy Gardener) and Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific).
“Man of Tomorrow” opens in cinemas on July 9th 2027.
