New PS5 Controller Is Curvy & Mostly White

While Sony has yet to reveal the PlayStation 5 console, the company has today officially unveiled the unit’s controller and it’s changing up the usual color scheme to a monochrome two toned design that’s got some serious hips.

The PS4’s DualShock controller was a big success, considered a major improvement on the PS3’s, and so the PS5’s controller has kept many of the touches including the same basic layout of buttons. One key change is the ‘Share’ button is being replaced by a ‘Create’ button, while the light bar has also shifted to the sides rather than the top of the touchpad.

However the new controller, dubbed the ‘DualSense’, makes some key additions. There’s now haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, a built-in microphone array, a slight change of angle to the hand triggers, and updates to the grip which apparently makes the bigger looking controller feel smaller than it appears. One big mandate was to keep the weight down as much as possible.

The company reportedly went through several concepts and hundreds of mockups, testing on gamers with a variety of hand sizes, over the past few years before they settled on the final design which offers the best ‘ergonomic comfort and intuition’.
