TriStar Pictures has released new photos from its historical epic drama “The Woman King” ahead of the film’s first trailer arriving tomorrow.
The first shots have ben revealed as part of a Vanity Fair cover story about the film set around the real-life Kingdom of Dahomey in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Oscar-winner Viola Davis leads the charge as Nanisca, General of the all-female military unit known as the Amazons, and her daughter Nawi.
Together they fought the French and neighbouring tribes who violated their honor, enslaved their people, and threatened to destroy everything they’ve lived for.
John Boyega and Lashana Lynch co-star along with Thuso Mbedu, Adrienne Warren, Jayme Lawson, Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Sheila Atim.
“The Old Guard” filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood directs from a screenplay she co-wrote with Dana Stevens and the film is scheduled to make its debut in theaters on September 16th.
