Netflix has premiered a batch of new photos from its live-action series adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s famed, pirate-themed, long-running anime “One Piece” which premieres on August 31st on the service.
The series will follow the other-worldly adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates crew as they explore exotic islands and endless oceans in search of the ultimate fabled treasure to become the next Pirate King.
However, the Navy is on their ship’s tail, and they’re not the only crew searching for the One Piece. The series stars Inaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero Gibson and Taz Skylar in the primary roles.
The photos show off not just the main characters but also key figues in Luffy’s childhood such as paternal grandfather Garp (Vincent Regan) and role model style figure Shanks (Peter Gadiot).
Also onboard are Morgan Davies, Ilia Isorelys Paulino, Aidan Scott, Jeff Ward, McKinley Belcher III, Langley Kirkwood, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, Craig Fairbrass, Steven Ward and Chioma Umeala.
The project hails from Steven Maeda (“Lost”) and Matt Owens (“Luke Cage”) with both co-showrunning, writing and executive producing. Original manga author Eiichiro Oda was involved in the show’s creation.
