New Live-Action “One Piece” Featurette

Netflix

Ahead of its premiere on August 31st, Netflix has released a new four-minute featurette about its live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s massively popular pirate-adventure manga and anime series “One Piece”.

Filmed before the strike and released minutes ago, the clip features behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast and showrunners Matt Owens and Steven Maeda talking about the show’s tone, casting and more.

The series has taken great pains to be faithful to the Oda’s vision for the franchise has been unfolding in manga and animated form since the late 1990s.

The new show follows Monkey D. Luffy, a young man determined to find the legendary One Piece treasure and thereby become King of the Pirates.

Along as part of his ‘Straw Hat’ crew of the ship Going Merry are Zoro, Nami, Usopp and Sanji, each of whom has their own agendas. Along the way, they must deal with rival pirates and intimidating Marines, among other dangers.

Inaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero and Taz Skylar co-star. Oda himself has been heavily involved in the series, even causing Netflix to reshoot some scenes he felt didn’t live up to the standards of his source material.
