New Line Sets A “Lights Out” Sequel

New Line Cinema

New Line Cinema & Atomic Monster has begun development of a sequel to the 2016 supernatural horror hit “Lights Out”.

Rising writer Connor Osborn McIntyre will pen the screenplay for the feature, which has been stuck in development for years. Scripts by the original film’s writer Eric Heisserer & Chris Borrelli were both penned and never made much progress.

The original film followed a ghost that lives in the shadow and dark recesses of buildings as it haunts a family. Teresa Palmer, Maria Bello, Gabriel Bateman and Alexander DiPersia starred.

Made for less than $5 million, it became a massive hit, grossing $149 million worldwide. Plot specifics of the new film are under wraps.

Lawrence Grey is returning as producer, while Heisserer and director David F. Sandberg will return only in producing capacities. Ben Everard and Lotta Losten also produce.

McIntyre penned the upcoming Ben Affleck-directed “Animals” which stars Affleck, Gillian Anderson, Steven Yeun, and Kerry Washington. His original script “American Midnight” made last year’s Black List.
