New “Jurassic” Targets $260M Global Start

Universal Pictures

Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s dinosaur sequel “Jurassic World Rebirth” is set to roar at the box-office, albeit a quieter one than usual.

Opening today in cinemas, the title marks the seventh overall installment in the prehistoric franchise and a mini-reboot following the “Jurassic Park” and “Jurassic World” trilogies.

With July 4th arriving on a Friday this year, the studio opted to go early on Wednesday and is headed for a $100-125 million domestic start from Wednesday to Sunday.

That’s decidedly down on the starts of the “Jurassic World” trilogy entries, which pulled in $208 million, $148 million and $145 million respectively over their opening weekends. Those were only standard Friday-Sunday debuts.

Meanwhile, the film is headed for an overseas start of over $130 million, bringing its worldwide opening weekend debut in at around $260 million. Coming in at a cheaper cost of $180 million, this doesn’t need to hit the $1 billion mark to be profitable.

“F1” is also still going strong and many eyes will be on its second weekend which looks to be targeting around $30-35 million domestically.
