New “Evil Dead” Will Be A City-Set Tale

The new “Evil Dead” film is swapping the forest for the urban jungle.

Actor Bruce Campbell was on hand for a Q&A at an “Evil Dead” screening at the Mahoning Drive-In Theater recently where he briefly talked about the new film in the franchise.

Both Campbell and Sam Raimi are producing the project, dubbed “Evil Dead Rise,” which has Lee Cronin (“The Hole in the Ground”) slated to direct.

Cambell says (via Bloody Disgusting) that the new film will trade in the woodland setting of films past for that of a city: “The Evil Dead are going to f–k up a city this time.”

This would gel with recent rumors a high-rise office building would be a key setting for the new film. Cronin was asked to comment by the outlet but declined saying he: “had to remain tight-lipped about the film’s secrets”. Cronin also wrote the script.

Campbell also says he’s happy to let others take over: “From this point forward, they kind of have to stand on their own. Which is fine. And liberating. You could have different heroes, different heroines in this case. This one’s gonna be a little more dynamic. We just want to keep the series current. And the mantra, really, is that our heroes and heroines are just regular people. That’s what we’re going to continue.”

There’s currently no word as to when the project will begin production.
