Rebooting the classic Universal monster film “The Mummy” worked out brilliantly for Brendan Fraser in 1999, not so much for Tom Cruise in 2017.
Now, new details have emerged regarding “Evil Dead Rise” filmmaker Lee Cronin and his attempt at redoing the property for Universal and Blumhouse/Atomic Monster.
As previously reported, the approach here is less large-scale action adventure and more a cost-effective genre horror work ala Universal’s “The Invisible Man” and “Wolf Man” reboots.
Scooper DanielRPK reports that the reboot has been retitled and will now go by the name “The Resurrected”. There’s also a new official synopsis:
“After his missing daughter mysteriously returns eight years later, a father discovers she carries the spirit of an ancient Egyptian mummy, and as the evil spreads to his other child, he must perform a deadly ritual to save them, even if it means becoming the monster himself.”
Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Veronica Falcón, May Calamawy, and May Elghety star in the film and Cronin recently announced that principal photography is “all wrapped up”. Cronin also penned the script.
James Wan, Jason Blum and John Keville produce the project which is currently slated for a release on April 17th 2026.
