Disney has made it clear that they’re stepping away from interconnectivity between the events of Marvel movies and those on the TV side, despite both now being in the MCU.
Indeed, it has been thought that the upcoming “Daredevil: Born Again” second season and the film “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” will be primarily standalone affairs with, at most, something like a brief cameo.
That’s not the case, according to Marvel TV boss Brad Winderbaum, who told EW at New York Comic Con on Thursday that the link is much more prominent:
“We are communicating a lot with the team on Spider-Man: Brand New Day to make sure that there’s coherence there. We don’t want to spoil anything, but it very much exists in the same world, and it is important.”
Winderbaum sadly won’t go into details about how the two projects will connect, but did say each has its own unique tones and stories:
“We’re in a shared universe together, but I would say just the Daredevil comic books, the Punisher comic books depicted a certain tone and an idea of New York in a different way than Spider-Man’s, but they both exist in the same universe. It’s similar. Everything lines up and the impacts are felt, but we’re able to tell different stories.”
Winderbaum also confirms Elden Henson will return as Foggy in the new run, despite Henson saying that he isn’t: “People don’t know what they’re allowed to say and what they’re not allowed to say.”
The second season of “Daredevil: Born Again” airs next Spring and will come ahead of the new “Spider-Man” film opening July 31st.
