New “American Psycho” Having Casting Issues

Lionsgate

The upcoming new adaptation of author Bret Easton Ellis’ “American Psycho” is having a small problem – no-one is signing up for the lead role.

In 2024 came the news that “Challengers” and “Call Me By Your Name” director Luca Guadagnino would be helming a new interpretation of the novel for Lionsgate.

Fan casting speculation quickly grew with the likes of Austin Butler and Patrick Schwarzenegger being bandied about as potential options.

Now though, in a recent episode of The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, it has been revealed by the author that multiple ‘high-profile actors’ have turned down an offer to star in the new movie.

No actual names were mentioned, but Ellis has thoughts as to why people keep turning it down: “A couple of high-profile actors — whom I can’t name — have turned it down. I think maybe because they don’t want to be in the shoes of Christian Bale.”

Bale played the iconic role in the 2000 film adaptation by filmmaker Mary Harron, the part becoming one of Bale’s most famous early works. Willem Dafoe, Jared Leto, Justin Theroux, Reese Witherspoon and Chloe Sevigny co-starred.
