Networks, Streamers Pass On Golden Globes

A new report from Puck News indicates the next Golden Globes ceremony, due to take place on January 7th, still doesn’t have a streaming deal in place.

Back in February, Variety reported that the Globes were “entertaining multiple offers from potential distribution partners”.

That doesn’t seem to be the case any longer as Puck indicates the ceremony’s traditional home at NBC/Peacock gave Dick Clark Productions a “lowball offer” back in March that was politely declined.

Since then, however, they’ve struggled to find a home with CBS, Fox, Netflix, Amazon, ABC/Disney+/Hulu, Apple TV+, the Turner networks and even the Roku Channel all reportedly passing on the Globes.

Multiple sources for the outlet cite the high asking price as the cause, though lingering toxicity over the HFPA’s scandal likely didn’t help. Back in 2018, NBC agreed to pay $60 million a year to broadcast the Globes.

Media conglomerate Penske bought the Globes in June and shut down the Hollywood Foreign Press Association which was the subject of the scandal involving the make-up of its membership. A new voting body is being assembled with Helen Hoehne serving as current president.
