Netflix has unveiled its biggest annual slate of Korean films and series to date with the confirmation that thirty-four titles are on the way in 2023, including eleven previously unannounced projects.
The announcement comes as global subscribers have been devouring Korean content, with over 60% of Netflix users across the globe watching Korean films or series in 2022.
Such titles have regularly featured in the Global Top 10 list in more than 90 countries, with “Squid Game” atop and “All of Us Are Dead” ranking eleventh on Netflix’s most-watched TV series of all time list, whilst other major hits have included “Extraordinary Attorney Woo,” “The Silent Sea,” “Kingdom,” and “Hellbound”.
Don Kang, Netflix’s VP of content in Korea, says: “This year, we’re pushing the envelope even further with the stories we tell and how we tell them.”
The lineup of all-new shows announced Tuesday includes romance titles “Behind Your Touch,” “Crash Course in Romance,” “King The Land,” “Destined With You,” and “See You In My 19th Life” and the more straightforward drama “The Good Bad Mother.” There are also four reality series and a true-crime documentary.
Meanwhile, “Sweet Home,” “D.P.,” and “The Glory” all return with new seasons, whilst there are new series like “Daily Dose of Sunshine, “Queenmaker,” “Bloodhounds,” “Celebrity” and “Goodbye Earth” along with six feature films like ” Kill Boksoon” and “Ballerina, and the feature doco “Yellow Door” about the search for Bong Joon-Ho’s first film.
