Netflix To Reboot “T.J. Hooker” As A Film

ABC

Netflix has landed the screen rights to the 1980s police procedural series “T.J. Hooker” with plans already underway for an action-comedy film based on the property.

In his first major role since the original “Star Trek,” William Shatner led the cast of the 1982 series, which ran for five seasons, first on ABC and then at the end on CBS.

Shatner played the eponymous police sergeant and war vet alongside young recruits played by Heather Locklear, Adrian Zmed and James Darren. Ryan Husky created the series.

The film is expected to have a more meta comedy tone than the original series, with producers already in talks with Shatner, who is now 94, to be involved in some way.

The film version has set “Yes Man” and “Little Brother” scribes Jarrad Paul and Andy Mogel to pen the film; the pair are currently co-showrunners on stand-up comedian Bert Kreischer’s scripted comedy series “Free Bert” at Netflix.

Sophie Cassidy, Matt Crespy, Adrian Askarieh and Alex Westmore produce.
