Netflix has purchased the completed trilogy of movies based on R.L. Stine’s teen horror books “Fear Street” which were originally setup at Fox’s Chernin Entertainment.
Shot last year in Georgia, the original plan was to release each film a month apart starting this June but the films were pulled from cinemas after the COVID-19 pandemic closed theaters.
Disney absorbed the Fox feature film assets last year, which included “Fear Street,” while Chernin signed a first-look deal with Netflix in April which makes the jump to the streamer a natural home.
Netflix is planning to release the three films mid-2021 for a themed event dubbed “The Summer of Fear”.
The films cover three different time periods, including the 1600s, with a cast that includes Kiana Madeira, Olivia Welch, Benjamin Flores Jr., Ashley Zukerman, Fred Hechinger, Julia Rehwald and Jeremy Ford.
