On the heels of their success with “Bridgerton” and “Inventing Anna,” Shondaland and Netflix have set up another scripted original series – “The Residence”.
Ordered straight to series, Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers will executive produce the mystery drama which will initially take inspiration from Kate Andersen Brower’s novel of the same name. The eight-episode drama however is only using the work as a jumping-off point to tell a new murder-mystery story.
The synopsis reads as follows: “132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous State Dinner. The Residence is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.”
Paul William Davies (“Scandal,” “For the People”) will serve as showrunner and also executive produces.
