Netflix Sets “Tomb Raider,” Kong Anime Series

Netflix and Legendary Television are teaming for anime series expansions of the “Tomb Raider” and “Skull Island” franchises.

In 2018, Netflix and Legendary Entertainment announced plans for “Pacific Rim: The Black,” an anime TV series based on Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 film “Pacific Rim”.

They’re now continuing that trend with these announcements. “Skull Island” will serve as another chapter in Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise which kicked off with 2014’s “Godzilla” and 2017’s “Kong: Skull Island” films.

The show follows shipwrecked characters desperate to survive the most dangerous place on Earth, the island that is home to colossal monsters, including the megaprimatus himself – King Kong.

The series will be executive produced and written by Brian Duffield (“Underwater”) and executive produced by Jacob Robinson. Powerhouse Animation (“Blood of Zeus”) will handle the animation.

The “Tomb Raider” anime will continue the story of the video game trilogy that began with Square Enix’s acclaimed 2013 reboot and wrapped with “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” in 2018.

Tasha Huo (“The Witcher: Blood Origin,” “Red Sonja”) will write and executive produce, along with Dmitri M. Johnson (“Sonic the Hedgehog”), Stephen Bugaj and Howard Bliss.
