Netflix has announced it is adapting its smash-hit South Korean dystopian thriller series “Squid Game” into what they’re calling the biggest reality competition series ever made.

Announced at the Banff World Media Festival on Tuesday, “Squid Game: The Challenge” will see 456 players competing in a series of games for the chance to win $4.56 million.

The payout is claimed to be the largest lump-sum cash prize in TV history, while the show sports the largest competition series cast ever assembled.

The reality competition will consist of ten episodes and casting applications are now open at SquidGameCasting.com. Netflix is seeking contestants from around the world, but they must be English-speaking. If successful, versions in other languages might be produced.

Challenges will be inspired by the dramatic series, but there will be differences and additions to keep players off guard. The project is a co-production between Studio Lambert and The Garden and will be filmed in the UK.
