Netflix has announced that it is developing both a live-action film and an animated series based on the major Xbox game franchise “Gears of War”.
The streamer revealed the news on Twitter, with the deal reportedly arriving after long negotiations. Game developer The Coalition will partner with the streamer on the project, and Netflix notes that there is “potential for more stories to follow.”
The film will reportedly adapt some portion of the video games and will come before the adult animated series. No names have been attached to either project so far.
Various attempts to adapt the property have taken place over the years, with many fan-casting “Guardians of the Galaxy” star Dave Bautista as protagonist Marcus Fenix. Bautista has called the part his “dream role”. Terry Crews has also shown interest in starring in the Cole Train role.
