Netflix has handed out an order for a new French-language animated event series take on the classic “Asterix & Obelix” comic books.
The first graphic novel was published in 1961 and there have been 38 volumes to date released in 111 languages and dialects. There have also been 15 animated and live-action film adaptations.
The story as always follows the titular Gauls and the colorful characters of their village as they, with the help of a magic potion, fight the Roman occupation of Europe. This series will be based on the seventh book “Asterix and the Big Fight”.
Alain Chabat, who penned and directed the most successful of the previous films to date – “Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra” – has signed on to helm the series which Alain Goldman will produce. The show aims to debut in 2023.
