Netflix Plans “Splinter Cell” Animated Series

Netflix and Ubisoft are teaming up for an adult animated series adaptation of the latter’s popular video game franchise “Splinter Cell”.

The companies have enlisted “John Wick” franchise writer Derek Kolstad to serve as writer and executive producer on the series which has already received a two-season, sixteen episode order at the streaming service.

“Splinter Cell” began life in 2002, the first title launching to universal acclaim and following U.S. Navy SEAL Sam Fisher after he is recruited by the NSA to work for the mysterious Third Echelon division within the agency – engaging in stealth and strategy-heavy black ops missions.

Six sequels followed while attempts have been made over the years to turn the series into a film with Tom Hardy long attached to star as Fisher. That version is currently inactive.

Kolstad recently worked on the upcoming Disney+ Marvel series “Falcon and The Winter Soldier” and the Quibi comedy “Die Hart”. Ubisoft’s last attempt at adapting one of its key franchises was 2016’s “Assassin’s Creed” film.
