To date, Netflix’s foray into the video game realm has mostly been incorporating acclaimed indie titles like “Kentucky Route Zero,” “Oxenfree” and “Spiritfarer” into its catalog.

That’s about to change as Netflix is beginning to test its cloud gaming service in the U.S. after limited trials in Canada and the United Kingdom. The service allows members to play its games on smart TVs and TV-connected devices and to use their mobile phone as the gaming controller.

Now, in a new Wall Street Journal report, it has been revealed the streaming giant is looking to add Rockstar’s “Grand Theft Auto” franchise to the platform. Specifically, they have “discussed plans” to release “a game” from the franchise through a licensing deal on their platform.

It’s not clear which one but speculation is already high that it could be the upcoming “Grand Theft Auto 6” which remains officially unannounced but is an open secret at this point.

Seen as direct competition to other gaming cloud streaming services like Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce Now, Netflix is also working on a first-party AAA game with former executive producer Chacko Sonny.

They are also planning to release mobile games based on several of their high profile franchises with “Squid Game” and “Wednesday” games in the coming months whilst games based on “Extraction” and “Black Mirror” are in discussion.
