Netflix Plans Live-Action “City Hunter” Film

Netflix

Netflix has handed out the green light to a live-action film adaptation of the classic Japanese manga “City Hunter”.

Ryohei Suzuki (“Tokyo MER,” “Segodon”) has signed on to star in the project as Ryo Saeba whose partner Makimura is killed. He and Makimura’s sister Kaori team up to find out the truth.

The story unfolds in the bustling streets of Shinjuku with the manga to be updated to the modern-day. The original work was a staple of Japanese pop culture throughout the 1980s.

This will mark the first time the property is adapted as a live-action film in its native Japan following a popular anime series and films made in China, France and Hong Kong – one of which starred Jackie Chan.

Yuichi Sato (“Kisaragi”) is onboard to direct from a script by Tatsuro Mishima. The project is set for a 2024 release.
