Netflix Plans Animated “Clash of Clans” Series

Netflix

Netflix has announced that “Clash of Clans,” the 2012 free-to-play mobile strategy video game boasting over four billion downloads, is becoming an animated series.

The show is currently in pre-production and “will build upon the mayhem of the games” according to the streamer via an official press release. The show will follow a determined, but in over his head, Barbarian who must rally a band of misfits to defend their village and navigate the comically absurd politics of war.

Fletcher Moules, who directed the original “Clash of Clans” animated videos for gaming studio Supercell, will serve as showrunner here. Ron Weiner (“30 Rock,” “Futurama”) will be head writer, and Vancouver-based Icon Creative Studio will handle the animation.

Curtis Lelash, the head of film & TV at Supercell, said in a statement:

“We’re thrilled to be working with Netflix and this creative team to bring the world of Clash to life. Think epic battles, immaculate Barbarian mustaches, and the kind of humor our players know and love. They’ve been asking for a Clash series forever, and we’re beyond excited to finally say: it’s happening!”

Since the game and companion title “Clash Royale” launched globally over a decade ago, the game has managed to deliver 180 billion gameplay hours worldwide according to Supercell.
