Netflix has ordered the planned series adaptation of Michael Connelly’s novel “The Lincoln Lawyer” to series.
The high-profile legal drama hails from producer David E. Kelley and was originally setup at CBS. However the network passed in May, with the coronavirus crisis and the show’s plan to be heavily serialized rather than episodic thought to be the main cause.
The series had cast Logan Marshall-Green in the lead role of Mickey Haller who runs his L.A. law practice out of the back of his Lincoln Town Car. In the books Mickey is the half-brother of Hieronymus ‘Harry’ Bosch.
Amazon, which runs the acclaimed TV series “Bosch” based on Connelly’s Harry Bosch novels and starring Titus Welliver, was rumored to be sniffing around a potential pickup back in May.
This new iteration at Netflix will still hail from the same writing and producing team, however it will feature an entirely new cast from the CBS version with Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (“Murder on the Orient Express,” “The Magnificent Seven”) taking over the lead role of Mickey.
The series will be based on the second book “The Brass Verdict” and thus avoid treading territory already walked by Matthew McConaughey’s 2011 film adaptation of the first book in the series.
Connelly and Ross Fineman executive produce.
