Lee Daniels will direct an upcoming exorcism thriller movie which Netflix beat out six other major bidders to win last night in a deal worth “upward of $65 million”.
Daniels will direct the film which will star Andra Day, Octavia Spencer, Glenn Close, Rob Morgan, Caleb McLaughlin and Aunjanue Ellis.
Day plays the mother of an Indiana family whose children purportedly became demonically possessed in a film inspired by the real-life case of Latoya Ammons and her family.
Spencer plays a clergy member, Close plays Day’s mother, Morgan plays Day’s boyfriend, McLaughlin will play an older version of Day’s son.
Daniels re-wrote earlier drafts from Dave Coggeshall and Elijah Bynum, this one taking “The Conjuring” and “The Amityville Horror” approach of using actual events to frame a fictional thriller.
Daniels, Tucker Tooley and Pam Williams are producing and filming aims to begin by the middle of this year.
