Netflix has announced that “Arrested Development” is staying on service, the streamer revealing the news a few hours ago. The news effectively reverses a previous announcement that indicated the series would exit the service in March.
All five seasons of the sitcom were slated to leave the streamer on March 15th. However, Netflix and 20th Television have reportedly reached a new licensing deal for the show.
Hulu will lose streaming rights to the show’s first Fox-aired first three seasons later this year, which means all of the show will be united exclusively at Netflix for the foreseeable future.
Created by Mitchell Hurwitz, the series follows the dysfunctional and bizarre Bluth family picking up the pieces after patriarch George Bluth Sr. (Jeffery Tambor) is sent to prison.
The cast includes Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Will Arnett, Tony Hale, the late Jessica Walter, Portia De Ross, and David Cross. Ron Howard narrates as well as executive produces.
The fourth and fifth seasons of the 20th Television and Imagine Television title was one of Netflix’s first original comedies – the streamer famously resurrected the series after FOX cancelled it. A mixed-reviewed fourth season aired in 2013 whilst a fifth aired across 2018 to 2019.
