Following an award-winning debut at the 2018 Urbanworld Film Festival, Ava DuVernay’s independent film studio ARRAY has picked up the rights to artist and filmmaker Samuel ‘Blitz’ Bazawule’s Ghanaian feature “The Burial of Kojo” for release on Netflix.
The story follows the young Esi as she travels on a magical journey to find her missing father and uncle, the latter of whom has trapped her father in a mine shaft during an illegal mining expedition. The story blends “a familial narrative with magical realism and Afrofuturism”.
ARRAY and Netflix have set a release date for March 31st as well as a limited theatrical release in the United States. A teaser trailer has also just been released below.
