Netflix Considers Price Hike Post-Strike?

Netflix is reportedly set to raise the prices of its ad-free streaming plans within a few months after the SAG-AFTRA actors strike ends according to The Wall Street Journal (via Variety).

The paper cites anonymous sources who say discussions are to raise prices in “several markets globally” with the first increase in fees likely to impact North America.

It’s not clear what the new prices will be or when they will take effect. They last raised prices in early 2022.

It’s a surprise considering Netflix CFO Spence Neumann told investors in July that they were “more than a year out” from any price increases in its major markets.

The streamer currently has three tiers in the U.S. which are $6.99/month ad-supported, $15.49/month for ad-free standard, and $19.99/month for ad-free premium.

Price hikes for the service have been mostly paused following their paid-sharing program rollout in May to crack down on password sharing. Rivals however have raised their prices recently including Hulu, Peacock and Paramount+.
