Famously reticent about revealing viewership information about its biggest hits, Netflix has now opened the curtain a little big reveal a list of what they say are its ten most popular original movies to date.
According to Bloomberg these numbers represent the number of viewers of each movie in their first four weeks of release.
Unsurprisingly its the Chris Hemsworth-led “Extraction” that remains at the top, the film released to much fanfare this April at the height of the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic. Here’s the full list:
1. Extraction (2020) – 99 million
2. Bird Box (2018) – 89 million
3. Spenser Confidential (2020) – 85 million
4. 6 Underground (2019) – 83 million
5. Murder Mystery (2019) – 73 million
6. The Irishman (2019) – 64 million
7. Triple Frontier (2019) – 63 million
8. The Wrong Missy (2020) – 59 million
9. The Platform (2019) – 56 million
10. The Perfect Date (2019) – 48 million
The streaming service produces more films than any traditional Hollywood studio by a large margin and had multiple films ready to go when the pandemic hit.
