Netflix has cancelled its drama series “Sex/Life,” the decision coming just five weeks after the show’s second season was released.
The news wasn’t a huge surprise after the announcement a few weeks ago that the show’s star Sarah Shahi signed on to star in ABC’s legal drama “Judgement” which is in contention for next season.
The second season, which clocked in at a shorter six-episode run than the first season’s eight episodes, served as an ending of sorts as Shahi’s Billie reunited with her ex Brad (Adam Demos), and got married.
Just a week after it premiered, showrunner Stacy Rukeyser indicated she was hopeful for another season, and there was more story to tell with these characters.
However, on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, Shahi revealed she “did not have the support” on the show’s second season that she had on the first: “It became a much different thing for me, and I’m not afraid to say that… I mean, I’m never going to work for Netflix again now after saying all this. I just can’t lie. And it was definitely a challenge.”
Going by Netflix’s internal data on its top 10 list, the show was down around 45% in viewership for its second season compared to a similar time frame for the first season.
Mike Vogel, Margaret Odette, Cleo Anthony and Darius Homayoun also starred.
