A trio of adult animation series won’t be getting second seasons on Netflix.
The card game-to-cartoon adaptation “Exploding Kittens,” filmmaker Zack Snyder’s gory “Twilight of the Gods” and the animated reboot of sitcom classic “Good Times” have all been cancelled according to What’s on Netflix.
Each premiered over a year ago with no word on their renewal status in the time since. “Exploding Kittens” debuted in July 2024, the comedy set in a suburban battleground where God and the Devil find themselves living in cat bodies and battle it out.
Tom Ellis, Abraham Lim, Lucy Liu, Ally Maki, Mark Proksch, and Sasheer Zamata were amongst the voice cast for the nine-part series. Some early development work did take place but didn’t progress beyond that.
Zack Snyder, Jay Olivia and Eric Carrasco’s “Twilight of the Gods” was an epic animated saga inspired by Norse mythology that followed a mortal king and a shield-maiden who are pulled into a brutal clash with gods. Hopes were for a second season but again, nothing was done beyond some very early development work.
J.B. Smoove, Marsai Martin, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Jay Pharoah lenth their voices to “Good Times” which apparently rated OK but not enough to justify a renewal, and certainly had its critical detractors.
Netflix Animation has new seasons of “Tomb Raider,” “Devil May Cry,” “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” “Haunted Hotel,” “Splinter Cell: Deathwatch,” and “Blue Eye Samurai” on the way along with shows like “Strip Law,” “The One Piece,” “Alley Cats,” “Living the Dream,” “Stranger Things: Tales from ’85,” “Motel Transylvania,” and titles baced on properties like “Ghostbusters,” “Magic: The Gathering” and “Minecraft” on the way.
