Netflix is stocking up on kids shows, announcing orders for seven original series including shows based on LEGO’s “Bionicle and Friends” toy lines, and a sitcom based on DreamWorks Animation’s film “The Croods”.
The deal brings Netflix’s kids originals lineup to 35 – children’s programming being a key part of the SVOD service. The shows include:
“Dawn of the Croods”: A family sitcom based on the 2013 Dreamworks Animation film set in prehistoric times. Premieres: December 24th.
“Glitter Force”: A twenty episode fantasy series about five preteen girls who form a superhero squad to defend Earth from evil fairy tale villains. Premieres: December 18th.
“Lego Bionicle: The Journey to One”. A four-episode animated series based on the Bionicle franchise of buildable action figures takes place on a mythical island where the forces of darkness are on the move. Premieres: Q1 2016.
“Lego Friends: The Power of Friendship”. A four-episode animated series based on the construction toys line about the adventures of five best friends around their hometown Heartlake City. Premieres: Q2 2016.
“Lost & Found Music Studios”. A live-action twenty-six half-hour episode series about a group of talented teenage musicians who struggle to find their authentic sound and place in the world. Premieres: 2016.
“Buddy Thunderstruck” (2017): A twelve-episode stop-motion animated action-comedy about a semi-truck racing dog named Buddy and his albino ferret mechanic. Premieres: 2017.
“Las Leyendas” (2017): A thirteen episode animated series set in the 1800s, the story centers on a reluctant but heroic teen boy with the ability to communicate with an inter-dimensional entity who has sought to conquer the universe for centuries. Premieres: 2017.
