Netflix has picked up the U.S. rights to the Liam Neeson and Laurence Fishburne-led action-thriller “The Ice Road” from CODE Entertainment and ShivHans Pictures.
The streamer reportedly forked out a record $18 million for the project in a domestic-only deal at the start of the currently underway virtual European Film Market (EFM).
In the film, a remote diamond mine collapses in the far northern regions of Canada and an ice driver (Neeson) leads an impossible rescue mission over a frozen ocean to save the lives of trapped miners despite thawing waters and a threat they never see coming.
“Die Hard with a Vengeance” and “Armageddon” scribe Jonathan Hensleigh directs the film which has already been sold around the world as well.
