Netflix Announces Profile Transfer Feature

Netflix

Netflix has announced today that it has launched the new feature ‘Profile Transfer’ which lets a member on an existing account switch to a brand-new account without rebuilding their profile.

Rolling out from today, the feature prevents a user’s personal data like customized recommendations, viewing history, favorite shows/movies lists, and other settings from being erased.

Subscribers worldwide will be notified via email when the feature will be available. Once up, users can go to their profile icon on the Netflix homepage and find the ‘Transfer Profile’ option

In a statement, Netflix’s product innovation chief Timi Kosztin says:

“People move. Families grow. Relationships end. But throughout these life changes, your Netflix experience should stay the same. No matter what’s going on, let your Netflix profile be a constant in a life full of changes so you can sit back, relax and continue watching right from where you left off.”

The feature launches as the streamer cracks down on account sharing and is expected to help those sharing an account to move to their own account. Previously the streamer estimated that about 100 million households have password freeloaders.

It also comes a day ahead of the company’s Q3 earnings report where it is expected to announce it has gained around one million subscribers.
