Netflix Acquires Seven Classic Black Sitcoms

Netflix has picked up seven library titles, specifically 1990s and early 2000s American comedies with predominantly African-American casts.

The list of titles includes “Moesha” launching August 1st, “The Game” on August 15th, “Sister Sister” on September 1st, “Girlfriends” on September 11th, “The Parkers” on October 1st, and both “Half & Half” and “One on One” on October 15th.

All these library titles are part of the streamer’s push of its ‘Strong Black Lead’ strand. Netflix’s content acquisition manager Bradley Edwards says the shows had been at the top of its subscribers wishlists for a long time.

The streamer launched its ‘Strong Black Lead’ strand in February 2018 and has picked up films such as “Love & Basketball” and “BAPS”.
