Netflix has acquired Oscar-winning “Birdman” and “The Revenant” director Alejandro G. Inarritu’s highly-anticipated “Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths”.

Currently in post-production, the film is expected to be completed by the Fall with Netflix saying it is committed to “a theatrical release on a global scale” ahead of a global streaming release – all before year’s end.

Penned by Inarritu and Nicolas Giacobone, the deeply personal story chronicles the story of a Mexican journalist and documentary filmmaker who returns home and works through an existential crisis as he grapples with his identity and family relationships.

The film was shot on 65mm and boasts cinematography from Darius Khondji. Filming took place on location in Inarritu’s hometown of Mexico City.
