Author Neil Gaiman has declared that the second season of Netflix’s TV series adaptation of his iconic work “The Sandman” is safe and still on track.
Yesterday emerged a report at Deadline indicating that Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav was unhappy with the terms of a long-standing arrangement with Netflix in regards to the Warner Bros. Television produced shows it creates for the service.
As a result, Zaslav was “instructing his teams to pause selling finished shows to Netflix for a few weeks”. It was also the second season renewal order for “The Sandman” which appears to be the catalyst that kicked off the whole issue and was likely a big reason why the order took so long to go through.
Understandably the fanbase is nervous. After having to wait months for the renewal, there have been fears it was in jeopardy. Streamers and networks have been scrapping costly projects lately, even some that seemed safe with renewal orders already handed out.
Gaiman though took to Twitter today to clear up potential confusion over the report, saying any issue regarding the production of next season has already been dealt with:
“Sandman Season 2 has been commissioned by Netflix and is real. Whatever behind-the-scenes wrangling and negotiating needed to happen to make this a reality has already occurred.”
The first season of “The Sandman” launched early August, and though it carried a substantial budget, it was a massive success with just under 200 million hours watched in its first ten days and 393 million hours watched by mid-September. It was met with acclaim from both critics and fans.
