Neil Gaiman Promises A Faithful “Sandman”

Neil Gaiman Promises A Faithful Sandman

Since its announcement in July, anticipation has been through the roof for Netflix’s series adaptation of the classic Vertigo comic character The Sandman. Creator of the character Neil Gaiman has promised that his team is working hard to faithfully bring the story to the screen.

In an AMA Session on Reddit, the author has assured fans that the adaptation plans very much to remain faithful in spirit to the source material saying “It’s the same plot” when asked if it will follow the same story. In addition, he was asked if it will cover most of the single-issue tales included over the title’s run to which he said: “We will do most if not all of them.”

The 75-issue comic follows Dream (aka. Morpheus), the Lord of the dream world who is held captive for seven decades by an occult ritual. Having escaped, his kingdom has fallen into disrepair in his absence and he sets about changing his old ways – hard for a being who has been around for billions of years.

The series features various elements of mythology, horror, historical events and absurdist humor. Characters include Dream’s siblings such as his gothic punk rocker looking sister Death, his talking animal assistants, and the immortal The Corinthian who has two mouths for eyes.

“Wonder Woman” co-writer Allan Heinberg will serve as showrunner with both Gaiman and David Goyer executive producing.
