Liam Neeson says he doesn’t anticipate returning to the role of Frank Drebin Jr. for a sequel to this year’s “The Naked Gun” reboot.
Neeson, Pamela Anderson, Danny Huston, Paul Walter Hauser and CCH Pounder star in the film that launched last week to some of the best reviews and box-office of any comedy releases in the past decade.
Much of that comes from its rapid-fire barrage of visual gags, slapstick humor, meta comedy, wordplay, and character-based humor along with being that rare legacy sequel that very much stands on its own.
Speaking with Newsweek recently, the actor says that unlike the original film, he doesn’t expect any sequels:
“I think it’s a one-off, yeah, and if it succeeds, good… It’s probably a one-off. Not that the experience wasn’t great, it was. It’s terrific, working with Pamela, Danny Huston, all these terrific guys.”
The reboot, directed by Akiva Schaffer and produced by Seth MacFarlane, is in cinemas now and is targeting an $8.4 million second weekend haul – dropping around 50% from its debut, which is quite solid.
