Update: Further information has come to light with the reveal that the pickup is for six episodes only with the shortened run influenced by the possibility of a writers and/or directors and actors strike over the U.S. summer which would impact the start of production on the new broadcast season. As a result this is likely to be the show’s final chapter and filming is slated to begin in March in Australia.
Original: NBC has renewed its disaster drama “La Brea” for a third season, the order coming ahead of the second season’s mid-season return tonight on the network.
The series follows an epic family adventure after a massive sinkhole opens in Los Angeles pulling people and buildings into a mysterious and dangerous primeval land where they have no choice but to band together to survive.
Natalie Zea, Eoin Macken, Jon Seda, Nicholas Gonzalez, Chiké Okonkwo, Zyra Gorecki, Jack Martin, Veronica St. Clair, Rohan Mirchandaney, Lily Santiago, Josh McKenzie, Tonantzin Carmelo and Michelle Vergara Moore star.
David Appelbaum serves as writer and executive produces alongside Avi Nir, Alon Shtruzman, Peter Traugott, Rachel Kaplan, Steven Lilien, Bryan Wynbrandt and Ken Woodruff. Universal Television, Matchbox Pictures and Keshet Studios produce.
The first season was the No. 1 new show of the adults 18-49 demo of the Fall 2021 season and the top drama of the entire 2021-22 TV season. The second season have averaged around 3.6 million viewers per episode.
