NBC Orders McKinnon As Carole Baskin Series

NBCUniversal has formally ordered its planned Joe Exotic limited series starring Kate McKinnon as Carole Baskin. The eight-episode series will be a cross-platform venture to air on NBC, USA Network and streamer Peacock.

Based on the Wondery podcast of the same name which became a cultural event earlier this year in the form of Netflix’s “Tiger King” series,” the story is based on true events following Carole Baskin (McKinnon), a big-cat enthusiast who learns that fellow exotic animal lover Joe ‘Exotic’ Schreibvogel is breeding and using his big cats for profit.

She sets out to shut down his venture, but has a checkered past of her own. When the claws come out, Joe will stop at nothing to expose what he sees as her hypocrisy – but the results prove dangerous.

The role of Joe Exotic has not yet been cast in this series, Nicolas Cage will play the part in a different scripted series. Etan Frankel (“Sorry for Your Loss,” “Shameless”) will write the limited series

Etan Frankel (“Sorry for Your Loss,” “Shameless”) will write the limited series while McKinnon will executive produce alongside Frankel, Hernan Lopez, Marshall Lewy and Aaron Hart.
